Are You Consistently Buying USA-Made Products for Yourself?

November 13th, 2013 No comments

Yes–Buy USA Means You too!

bu usa-made productsI was at a trade show a few weeks back and stopped at various booths from American manufacturers and one branch of the military– and they noticed they were all handing out promotional items that were Made in China.

That’s right.

These organizations were spending thousands of dollars exhibiting at this particular trade show to promote a “Buy American” theme– and they didn’t even have the forethought to buy American-made promotional items.

Where is that logic?

Where is the consistency of messaging?

How can you expect others to Buy American when you don’t even believe in the cause?

Vet your suppliers to make sure that they are using American factories — for everything!

Buy and drive American-made cars.

Are You Exclusively Looking to Buy American-Made Products?

How Consistent Are You in Buying American-Made Products?

Are you consistently buying American Made Products?Austin, Texas: I had dinner the other night with an executive of a large American factory — and he picked me up in his black 2012Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet E350 RWD.

Beautiful car. Wrong message.

How can this person expect his customers to support American jobs when he is buying a car that is not Made in America!??!

Are you being consistent in your purchases – and continuously seeking for an American-made alternative?

If not, why not?

If you are promoting an “American-Made culture” then you need to live it.

Breathe it.

Immerse yourself in it.

You car should be American-Made.

Your watch, your clothing, etc. should be American-made.

Re-train yourself (and your employees and family) to look for American-made products first and foremost.

Change your buying patterns and behaviors.

If you sell American-made products–you need to be buying American-made products.

Not from time to time.

But all the time.

Remember, the American job you save may be your own.

How Many More Factory Fires and Deaths Will It Take Before People Insist on Buying American Made Products?

Buying American Made Products Saves Lives..To Say Nothing of American Jobs

Austin, Texas: Factory workers are dying around the world at an alarming rate ..in a rush to eke out every inch of profit.

The other day there was a fire in a Bangladesh factory that killed 117 workers.  This factory was alleged to be making products for Sears, Disney and Wal-Mart, according to USA Today.

Whether it was arson or not, an article from CNN says that “The state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha recently reported that some 6,000 people die every year in fires in Bangladesh.”

Workers at Foxconn making Apple products have a high incidence of suicide among its workforce due to long hours, tedious work and poor work/lifestyle ratios.

How many more deaths of innocent factory workers will it take before American consumers are willing to pay a little bit more for products that are actually made in America?

We should look to these deaths and finally decide that we are better than this.

Are you willing to pay a little bit more for your Christmas gifts knowing that your items were Made in America?

By Americans?

For Americans?

I hope so.

American-made goods are produced to a higher standard.

Most of the issues about lead turning up in glassware and other products have all been made overseas.

Most of the reports about toxic chemicals added to consumable products are also made overseas–where regulations are not very stringent at all.

Politics aside, it is regulations and fair work hours and pay that have built the American middle class.

We need to support those workers — to ensure a higher standard of living for all Americans.

There is a huge multiplier effect that comes from one American worker spending their money on other goods and services, which lead to greater production, higher sales taxes paid to states, more income tax paid to state and federal coffers – and the cycle keeps continuing … as long as we continue to buy American.

Buying American Made Products Just Because It’s the Right Thing to Do

July 2nd, 2012 No comments
Don't mandate buying US-made products--educate and encourage it instead

People should buy American made products because it is the right thing to do from a moral standpoint, not because it is mandated by law.

Austin, Texas: Whenever the discussion comes to buying US-made products, the word “protectionism” always seems to follow.

Forcing or mandating people to buy goods or services made in the United States is wrong — and only encourages tariffs and trade retaliation from other countries, causing irreparable damage to various economies.

Instead, the conversation should be on why it is important to support American jobs by buying more American-made products.

Once people understand the correlation of money flow and how a dollar spent on one single American-made product flows to another company which then flows to another, more people will “get it”

We should try to buy American made products because it keeps our neighbors employed, helps to pay local, state and federal taxes, which then flows back to our teachers, firefighters and military.

This circle should be discussed in classrooms, at Lions Club and Rotary meetings, bridge clubs and golf clubs, etc.

We do not need government intervention to force us to support American businesses.

We do need more education and common sense.

Support American businesses- because the job you save may be your own!

Occupy Christmas: Buy American

New Organization Tries To Encourage Consumers to Buy US-Made Gifts

CNN did a recent report on an organization called Occupy Christmas, with its stated goal to encourage more people to buy American-made gifts this Holiday season.

According to the article, this group is trying to “help boost the domestic economy and reverse the tide of rising unemployment, for some, it means buying American. Others patronize mom-and-pop shops or crafts fairs or buy gift cards for local restaurants or services.”

According to CNN, the “Buy American” movement has been gaining momentum in recent years amid the economic downturn, steady unemployment and pledges from the Obama administration to reinvigorate the manufacturing sector.

A 2010 Adweek Media/Harris Poll found that 61% of Americans said they were more likely to purchase a product advertised as “Made in America.” In an ABC News special devoted to the topic, Diane Sawyer challenged Americans to spend $64 on American-made goods during holiday shopping, claiming that it would create 200,000 new jobs.

“A lot of consumers believe it’s a way to assist in all the issues we’re dealing with,” said University of Wisconsin consumer science professor Cynthia Jasper. “They believe that the money spent is reinvested in the local community in terms of taxes and jobs. Many consumers, because of the economic climate, want to to support their local communities.”

As Americans, we can control our destinies.  Let’s all make a concerted effort to switch 20% of our purchases to US-made products.

It will have a tremendous positive effect on this country in terms of increased employment opportunities, more tax revenue for our counties, cities, states and federal government, and an opportunity to reduce the growing deficit problem.

20% is a small goal that should be easily attainable if we take the time to shop around – and it can have far-reaching benefits.

Remember, the job you save may be your own!
