Buying American Made Products Saves Lives..To Say Nothing of American Jobs

Austin, Texas: Factory workers are dying around the world at an alarming rate ..in a rush to eke out every inch of profit.

The other day there was a fire in a Bangladesh factory that killed 117 workers.  This factory was alleged to be making products for Sears, Disney and Wal-Mart, according to USA Today.

Whether it was arson or not, an article from CNN says that “The state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha recently reported that some 6,000 people die every year in fires in Bangladesh.”

Workers at Foxconn making Apple products have a high incidence of suicide among its workforce due to long hours, tedious work and poor work/lifestyle ratios.

How many more deaths of innocent factory workers will it take before American consumers are willing to pay a little bit more for products that are actually made in America?

We should look to these deaths and finally decide that we are better than this.

Are you willing to pay a little bit more for your Christmas gifts knowing that your items were Made in America?

By Americans?

For Americans?

I hope so.

American-made goods are produced to a higher standard.

Most of the issues about lead turning up in glassware and other products have all been made overseas.

Most of the reports about toxic chemicals added to consumable products are also made overseas–where regulations are not very stringent at all.

Politics aside, it is regulations and fair work hours and pay that have built the American middle class.

We need to support those workers — to ensure a higher standard of living for all Americans.

There is a huge multiplier effect that comes from one American worker spending their money on other goods and services, which lead to greater production, higher sales taxes paid to states, more income tax paid to state and federal coffers – and the cycle keeps continuing … as long as we continue to buy American.

Should Politicians Be Forced to Buy American Made Promotional Products – Or Is It Their Right to Choose?

Should candidates buy only American made promotional items and swag?

Should candidates buy only American made promotional items and swag?

Austin, Texas: Should politicians be forced to buy promotional products that are only made in the USA?

Isn’t it their right as free-market capitalists to buy whatever imprinted bumper sticker, tote bag or water bottle– regardless of their country of origin?

Do people really care if their imprinted swag or gimme caps are from the United States or China or India, for that matter?

Well, the answers to the above questions in order are: NO, YES and YES.

I get several calls each day from political campaigns looking to purchase promotional items that are made in the USA.

Everything that they use can be purchased from domestic factories. Many even from union shops – including bumper stickerswater bottles, tote bags, shirts and caps.

Some do it out of patriotism and sense of duty. Hats off to them- no pun intended.

Some do it because they “got busted” speaking before a group of people and handing out Made in China pens and key chains — only to have it blow up in their face.

Others are scared to death, especially since the Ralph Lauren U.S. Olympic team uniforms were found to have been made in China…and caused them embarrassment and shame in the media for days.

Politicians and political campaigns should be buying American made promotional items because it is the right thing to do.

How can they be a party or candidate that espouses a return to jobs–when they do not support American labor themselves.

Americans can smell a hypocrite a thousand miles away.

Don’t be a campaign that says one thing and does another.

If you are for helping the middle class rise in income, support American jobs.

Buy American made products.

Not just for your campaign, but whenever there is an option.

Do it when nobody else is looking.

Do it because your really believe in this great country of ours.

Buy American-made products because you a a firm believer in the American military– and are tired of supporting foreign regimes because they have raw goods or cheap labor that we want.

Buy US-made products because you are an American.

The job you save may be your own.
